3rd Annual Coffee Bluff Fish Derby Results
There were 22 entries in this past year’s event with a total purse of $200.
Dr. Jerry Case wins the 3rd Annual Coffee Bluff Marina Fish Derby!! Congratulations, Doc!! Jerry was one of only 2 anglers who were able to catch all 10 species required, and Jerry had the heaviest weight of all 10 species to win this year’s title! Pretty impressive…Dr. Case was also the first angler to catch all 10 species, so he gets a free entry in the 4th Annual Coffee Bluff Marina Fish Derby. His name goes on a plaque that will forever hang in the marina store, and he gets a check for $200! Good job, Jerry!

There were only 2 anglers out of 22 who caught all 10 species required. Jerry Case and Ray Golden caught all 10 species, but Jerry reached that milestone first, so he gains a free entry in the 4th Annual Coffee Bluff Marina Fish Derby. Also, we placed the names of the anglers who caught the biggest fish of each species in a hat, and drew from that a name who also won a free entry in the 4th Annual Coffee Bluff Fish Derby. The biggest fish of each species looked like this…
Speckled trout went to Mike Smith with 3 pounds 11 ounces
Flounder went to David Sloan with 3 pounds 3 ounces
Black Drum went to Jerry Case with 7 pounds 6 ounces
Spanish mackerel went to Jerry Case with 5 pounds 0 ounces
Sheepshead went to Chris Tedder with 11 pounds 5 ounces
Whiting went to Jimmy Davis with 14 ounces
Redfish went to Jeff Soss with 4 pounds 7 ounces
Tripletail went to Jerry Case with 18 pounds 6 ounces
Spadefish went to Bob Tedder with 3 pounds 7 ounces
Striped bass went to Jerry Case with 7 pounds 9 ounces
Amy pulled the name of Jimmy Davis from the above list, so Jimmy has earned a free ride for the 4th Annual Coffee Bluff Fish Derby! It should also be noted that 3 of the species gave anglers a fit this past year – striped bass, spadefish, and Spanish mackerel. Of the 22 anglers, only 2 caught a striped bass – Jerry Case and Ray Golden. Only 2 caught a Spanish mackerel – Jerry Case and Ray Golden. And, only 3 anglers caught a spadefish – Bob Tedder, David Sloan, and Ray Golden.
Thanks to all 22 anglers for putting on quite a show this past year, and we look forward to the new derby that will begin when we re-open the marina. For now, we are temporarily discontinuing the derby as we are expected to completely shut down within the next month for what is expected to be a 9-12 month project. We will begin the 4th Annual Coffee Bluff Marina Fish Derby upon the Grand Re-Opening! Hope to see you there!
